Kokopelli Golf Course and Eagle Golf have made it an initiative to go “green” by managing our property as environmentally friendly taking into consideration our impact on the local community and the environment. Since Eagle Golf took over management of Kokopelli in 2008, we have made an effort to support the Eagle Golf Corporate initiative of operating all of their facilities in an environmentally friendly manor.
Kokopelli’s most recent environmental program is participation in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program through Audubon International. This program addresses five key environmental quality issues associated with golf course; Wildlife and Habitat Management, Chemical Use, Safety and Reduction, Water Conservation, Water Quality Management, and Outreach and Education. The goal of the program is to become a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course by addressing each of the 5 key environmental areas outlined by Audubon International as they affect Kokopelli and environment.
Over the past few years, Kokopelli has taken the going green initiative serious by making changes in managing the property to benefit the environment. Water is one of our most important resources, especially in the valley of the sun. Kokopelli realizes the importance of this resource to Arizona and has reduced our irrigation demand through irrigation system improvements saving about 30 million gallons a year. Kokopelli has also tried to limit our usage of fossil fuels be recently switching over to B99 bio-diesel in all of our diesel equipment. These are a few of the initiatives that are under way at Kokopelli we will expand upon these in the coming months to better manage our property and environmental impact.
We will work towards these goals while continuing to maintain the best possible playing conditions for our golfers. We will be making changes to our golf course to provide a better sanctuary for wildlife that will include setting aside unused portions of our property and lakes to be used by wildlife. We hope that this will produce a more scenic round of golf while creating a better habitat for our wildlife population.
